The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education in Andorra (AQUA) is participating in the General Assembly of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), held from 21 to 23 October in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and organised in cooperation with ACCUEE. This year’s event focuses on collaboration as a driver for innovation in quality assurance.
Quality assurance and sustainability
As part of the General Assembly, AQUA Director Isaac Galobardes is contributing to the parallel session “Enhancing Quality Assurance for Sustainable Futures”, organised within the ongoing collaboration between ENQA and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
The session builds on the ENQA-UNECE work on quality assurance and learning for sustainability and provides an opportunity to share experiences on integrating sustainability into quality assurance processes and systems.
Cooperation between quality assurance agencies from small states
The General Assembly has also provided an opportunity for representatives of the quality assurance agencies from Andorra, Malta, Iceland, Montenegro and Cyprus to meet and continue developing the cooperation initiated through the Memorandum of Understanding between agencies from small states.
The meeting supported further progress towards the formal establishment of a stable cooperation network, aimed at exchanging experiences, identifying common challenges and strengthening the voice of smaller higher education systems.
The initiative will soon enter a new stage with the formalisation of the network’s framework agreement, after which further details will be announced.
New ENQA Presidency
ENQA members also elected Péter Levente Lakatos, Director General of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB), as the organisation’s new President. AQUA congratulates him on his election and wishes him every success in his new role.
AQUA also extends its sincere thanks to outgoing President Daniela Cristina Ghițulică, Director General of ARACIS in Romania, for her dedication and contribution to ENQA.
Finally, AQUA thanks ACCUEE for its warm welcome and organisation of the 2026 General Assembly in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
