A Q U A

Teaching Staff

Academic staff are responsible for academic, teaching, and research activities, and may hold the title of full professor, assistant professor, visiting professor, or adjunct professor.

According to Law 14/2018, of June 21, on higher education, published in the Official Bulletin of the Principality of Andorra (BOPA) No. 44 (July 18, 2018), and especially Article 22, academic and research staff, to fully carry out teaching for the attainment of a professional advanced diploma, bachelor's, or master's degree, must hold a master's or doctoral degree. In the case of teaching for the attainment of a doctoral degree, the faculty must hold a doctoral degree.

Process

The process of evaluation and certifying of academic staff unfolds following the following steps:

Request

It is the responsibility of each higher education institution (IES) to ensure that academic staff with full responsibility meet the training requirements outlined in Article 22 of Law 14/2018, of June 21, on higher education, and to request the evaluation of all academic support staff who do not hold an official master or doctoral degree. The evaluation must be requested before the start of teaching and learning activities.

To request evaluation, higher education institutions must submit the following documents to AQUA:

  • The properly filled evaluation request form for teaching staff (see annex).
  • The curriculum vitae of the interested person(s).
  • Copies of obtained degrees.
  • The program of the teaching units where the interested person is expected to teach, as well as any additional information that helps understand the scope of the teaching unit and the task of the staff.

AQUA may request additional information or clarifications.

This documentation can be submitted to AQUA via email, to the following address: info@aqua.ad.

Acceptance of the request

AQUA has fifteen days to analyse and accept the request. Once accepted, the IES must proceed with the payment of the fee attached to the acceptance document.

Formal aspects review

AQUA reviews the formal aspects of the study plan memorandum, and if any errors need to be corrected, it notifies the IES, which has ten days to resolve it.

Evaluation

The Evaluation Committee issues an evaluation report within a maximum period of two months from when the IES has provided the additional information requested in the review of formal aspects or from when AQUA has accepted the request.

Once the evaluation report is issued, the IES has ten business days to submit allegations or additional information related to the issued report. If so, AQUA would have two months from the receipt of the allegations or additional information to evaluate the request and issue a new evaluation report.
